Purging Away the Stuff

Most appreciated message. Seems this is a season for purging for a lot of us.

Pastor Chris Owens - - Musings, Rants, and Reflections

piles of boxesI am currently in the midst of my fifth move in ten years. Through life changes and the itinerant ministry system I’m a part of as a United Methodist pastor, periodic moving has become part of my lifestyle. I always hear people complain about the pain and hassle of moving, and I’m feeling that pain pretty badly right now. If it wasn’t for all this stuff, moving would be so much easier, of course.

Last night I went through one of the more painful aspects of our impending move: purging. I have stuff boxed up that I haven’t gone through since the last move. Some of it has been boxed up for several moves. Then it dawned on me that I can’t keep schlepping around boxes of unopened stuff. All that stuff has to get moved and stored and most likely, eventually moved again. Why keep doing that? So… it was…

Note: The Prosperity Gospel

Information Hub

The Prosperity Gospel

The Prosperity Gospel is a term known by many but people really don’t understand it. God tells us that if we have faith as the size of a mustard seed anything is possible in his name.

Many people don’t realize that . Their are preachers who tell their members this concept and they too live by it that’s why they call it prosperity. I’m not sure if you have heard of this Christian rapper who made a song named fal$e preachers but she made a song about preachers who she think are false prophets.

I have said it and I will say it again if you’re not God you don’t have the authority to call anyone a false prophet. One of the preachers she listed was Joel Osteen.

I am very familiar with Joel Osteen and his preaching style. Joel uplifts his members and he tells them…

Empty Hands

Beautiful!!! gifts of love……precious!

Heidi Viars

isaiah fiftyeightten
In October last year the Lord put something on my heart -send one shoebox size box with gift cards and notes of encouragement and prayer to one family devastated by Sandy. I had no idea where to start. God did. He directed the path and eventually 13 boxes with prayer cards and gift cards were sent to families on the east coast.

I’ve been changed since. I have seen God work in so many details and am convinced that He is able to use our tiniest offerings of love and help to bring His Light into a hurting world.

Here we are, only 7 months later. So many hurt and out of home and possessions. Words we want to speak to the hurt often fail.  However, our prayers never fail. We begin by asking God to change our hearts so they hurt for and with our neighbors. Then, as we…

Got Troubles?

Larry Who

gospel-for-asia-TD13-00752

In my younger and single days, my alarm rang at 2:55 AM. I jumped out of bed, went to the bathroom, and put on sweat pants and a sweatshirt. I next bowed my knees and prayed till 6 AM at which time I took a shower, ate breakfast, and dressed for the day.  I then walked over to my church and prayed for an hour. Afterward, I put in a full day’s work as a laborer or a car salesman.

This was my routine for almost ten years.

As you can imagine, I earned a reputation as a prayer warrior. People asked me to pray for them or their problems, which I gladly did. I would write their names down and add them to a list. Praying for others was a priority in my life.

But what about my family and my needs?

I usually spent just seconds praying for…

The Face Behind The Name

Linda - The Face Behind the name Prodigal Chick

Linda – The Face Behind the name
Prodigal Chick

We are all Prodigal Sons & Daughters at some point or another, running around in darkness with our eyes hidden from the truth, dazed, confused, and hurting.

I have had my fair share of desert experiences and prodigal seasons in my life time.  I felt the Prodigal Chick Avatar was fitting for symbol and meaning.

I married my highschool sweetheart – AJ.  When we met we immediately knew we were meant to be…..   We have now been married 32 years and have been together for 36 years.  We are miraculously blessed and very thankful and proud of our daughter Kristi and our son Kyle.  We are triple blessed by our grand-daughter, Emma.  I love the Lord and have given Him my life to do what He Will – which may sound super sweet but it is a tough gig to follow.  I love my husband, family and friends. I would rather give than receive.  My happiest and most joyous times are in praying, serving and reaching out.  My life is blessed to be a blessing.  I write to share, encourage, and make laugh.  I am passionate about what I believe in – Jesus, love, justice and doing what God leads me to do.  I love meaningful music, especially songs that tug at the heart-strings.  These days I especially like country because a good bit of the country artist are singing about Jesus and turning hearts to Him.  “This is me in a “nutshell!”

This is not my Bible but this is what my Bible looks like except mine has a hundred or a thousand sticky tabs on the top and sides, I just haven’t got around to taking a picture…….

This looks just like my Bible

THE NARROWING

Brilliant and spot on!!!

The Fearless Experiment

the narrowingRomans 5:1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we’ve gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

This post isn’t for everyone.
It’s just for You. You know who you are.
The one who can’t catch your breath between this crisis and the next.
The one who looks back at the last few years and sees stress, heartache, sleepless nights, weary days.
The one who hears things like “You’ve got to…

The Patience of Job: Have you ever felt like your family, friends and even God has left you alone?

This is so encouraging for those of us that are going through extreme and long trials. I am anxious for the next part…..but then we are not supposed to be anxious while waiting!!!

End Times Tribulation Watch

Job; suffering well

‘Blood is thicker than water’ Translation: Your family will stick with you through everything even when your friends desert you.

‘A friend sticks closer than a brother.’ Translation: A good friend will stick with you through everything even when your own family deserts you.

When things get tough in our life who can we really trust? Things will get tough, they always do, so who will be our most loyal friends and our best help in times of trouble?

We know that both friends and family can at times  leave us to stand alone in our troubles; but can the same be said of God? Will God ever abandon us? We have read that he won’t but what of the times when it feels like he has?

A Friday Poem

Please support these beautiful babies, Jesus would be so grateful of our merciful and loving hearts!!

Larry Who

gospel-for-asia-RT11-02355_1

I am nobody,

Worthless my life is.

To Untouchables I was born,

A Dalit child my fate sealed.

I was born in slums.

Rights? We have none.

To upper-caste our lives we owe.

Slaves to serve all their wish.

Poverty and hunger

Is all I ever knew.

If there is hope,

Tell me how?

What is my future?

Do I have any?

It all looks so dark

And I wish I were not born.

(The poem is taken from No Longer A SlumdogK. P. Yohannan, © 2011, page 45)

At the very bottom of the ungodly caste system in India are the 300,000,000 Untouchables or the Dalits. Their numbers are staggering and their children have lived the words in the above poem for over 3,000 years.

Yet, take a closer look at the above picture, okay?

These are Dalit children who have been brought into
